Shafer Vineyards is one of the star wineries, not only in Napa Valley but in all of California. Family owned & operated for over 40 years, they produce some of the most critically aclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon in the world.
As part of their planting & viticultural approach Shafer adopted a fully sustainable farming methodology that has become a role model for the Stag’s Leap Wine District.
Robert Parker Jnr, The World’s foremost authority on wine has this to say about Shafer...
..."One of Napa's most prominent and respected wineries, Shafer is a poster boy for remarkable and consistent quality across the board. All of this is the work of the brilliant father and son team of John and Doug Shafer as well as their longterm winemaker and vineyard manager, Elias Fernandez.
With over 200-plus acres of estate holdings, and 55 acres surrounding their winery in Stags Leap, this is a winery that never seems to disappoint."
Very deep purple-black in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select comes bounding out of the glass with gregarious scents of crème de cassis, warm black cherries, plum preserves and Indian spices with hints of lilacs, garrigue, stewed tea and cigar box plus a waft of charcuterie. Full-bodied, rich, boldly fruited and wildly decadent, it has a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and compelling freshness, finishing with loads of earthy and savory layers. Drink 2021-2050
98+ points Lisa Perrotti-Brown The Wine Advocate
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is dense, powerful and exotically ripe, with copious chocolate, crème de cassis, new leather, smoke and licorice overtones. Unctuous and intense, the 2015 has turned out quite well. The richness of the tiny berries of 2015 comes through in the wine's fruit and tannin intensity. There is a real sense of gravitas to the 2015, although the somewhat larger-scale tannins will likely always be a part of the wine's DNA. Drink 2022 - 2035
