Hand select fruit from a single parcel of vines at the pinnacle of own steep Angel Gully Vineyard, the highest in McLaren Vale. Yielding just one tonne per acre this single block Shiraz distinctively embodies the McLaren Vale style.
Primo Estate JOSEPH Angel Gully Shiraz has an intense bouquet of complex dark red fruits with spicy peppery notes and a touch of mint. Concentrated, blueberries and cream on the palate, very juicy but elegant and vibrant. Nicely structured with fine tannins and good length.
Fruit from the highest section of the dry-grown, elevated Clarendon Vineyard with a portion made in Amarone style. This a rich and powerful release of Angel Gully which will need time to evolve. Dark plum, charcuterie, mocha chocolate and coffee grounds all contribute to the rather brooding bouquet, and the palate (for now) is imposing rather than inviting. A little patience required.
