On release this Eden Valley Pinot Gris is pale in colour. The wine has bright aromas of pear, fig and citrus. The wine has a underlying spicy character. It has lashings of lemon juice characters throughout. More subtle characters of dried herbs and jasmine flowers add to the complexity of the wine. The wine is well structured with soft lively acid carrying through-out the palate and giving the wine long persistence.
Superlative gris in the context of Australia, playing off the estate's highly skilled hand when it comes to eking out textural complexity and interplay of freshness, flavour and chew. The usual stream of apple and pear sparks curiosity more because of the phenolic grip and savoury aura, finishing with a hint of marzipan. More Alsatian than domestic. All for the better.
