Named after the settlement now knows as a ‘lost’ township, Benbournie was situated between the towns of Clare and Blyth. The Benbournie is from a single vineyard on McRae Wood property, planted by Jim Barry in 1964.
This wine is a deep crimson red in the glass. Intensely aromatic with a mix of dark vine fruits, dark chocolate, fresh garden herbs, cedar oak and a touch of earth. The palate is flooded with generous dark berry flavours with savoury notes of earth, clove and cedar. Very fine, mineralic tannin lends length and style to a wine of great presence and persistence. The Benbournie has been created to be enjoyed upon release after a period of long term cellaring (under correct conditions) to enhance the wine’s qualities. 14% Alcohol.
From an estate vineyard ‘purchased from neighbour Duncan McRae Wood and planted to Jim Barry's first foray into cabernet.' It's been generously matured in predominantly new oak, but the fruit comes through strongly on the finish and aftertaste. Classy wine.
