“No Champagne house today is on a trajectory as steep as Jacquesson. While many houses are on the prowl for more fruit to increase production, Jacquesson is drastically slashing its yields and its contracts to radically improve quality in spite of lowering quantity. When others set out to make a consistent blend every year, Jacquesson throws uniformity to the wind to draw the best blend out of every vintage. Each time I look, this little house in the village of Dizy appears more like a fanatical grower producer. Jacquesson has leapt from ranking among Champagne’s top 20 houses to a lofty position among its top 10.”

Tyson Stelzer, The Champagne Guide, 2016-2017

Winter was freezing and wet, spring was very hot and dry although there were occasional frosts, a gloomy start to summer but the growing season finished with much better weather. The wines produced were fine, harmonious and balanced. The blend consists of 57% Chardonnay, 21% Pinot Noir and 22% Pinot Meunier, with reserve wines of 31%.

93 points Tyson Stelzer 2009 base vintage Disgorged November 2017 Tasted in Champagne

43% chardonnay, 30% meunier, 27% pinot noir; 30% reserves; aged 7.5 years on lees under cork for the first time; 1.5g/L dosage
Holding prime position among the best Cuvée 700 series releases of the past decade, 737 ranks second only to the sensational 2008 base of 736. It unwound magnificently across its release cycle five years ago, shedding its crystalline brittleness for silky finesse. A glorious 7.5 years on lees has deepened its mood to a full straw hue and heightened its rich complexity with layers of butterscotch, fruit mince spice and gingernut biscuits, while projecting the crunchy apple confidence and grapefruit tension of its youth. It holds its integrity with outstanding line and length, and will continue to age confidently for the next few years. The first 700 series release aged on lees under cork, Jean-Hervé Chiquet is impressed with the freshness and liveliness that this brings, though I am a little troubled by the phenolic bite it lends to the finish.
