The colour is a very deep, intense ruby-red colour. The bouquet is intriguing and varied, combining blackcurrant and cherry aromas with spicy flavours of black pepper and vanilla. In the mouth it is full-bodied and enveloping, with elegant toasted notes that create an intense and harmonious finish. An excellent accompaniment for stewed or sautéed beef and roast pork. Ideal with hare and boar. Also goes well with full-flavoured cheeses.
I like the perfumed blue flower and wet earth tones in the 2016 Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni. The blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. The fruit comes from the family's Tenuta Castiglioni in the township of Montespertoli. This is a medium to full-bodied red that shows dark consistency with aromas of plum, blackberry and Morello cherry. The wine is beautifully textured and soft with some warm-vintage ripeness on the close.
