The 2017 ‘Emily’ is a blend of 47% Cabernet Franc, 39% Merlot, 11% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot.
The 2017 ‘Emily’ is bold, muscular, but still refined, and certainly up there with the greatest vintages. The wine has a brooding nose of blackcurrant, violet, bay leaf, and toasty French oak. The palate is mouth coating and dense- showing an array of dark fruits and spice. A powerful wine that will certainly repay cellaring. This wine would definitely reward time in the cellar - best enjoyed from 2027 to 2031.
Cabernet Franc and merlot take the lead followed by malbec and splashes of petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon for good measure. Vivid purple-red; lots of fresh aromatics from violets, red fruit, warm earth and spicy-cedary oak. Medium-bodied, fine tannins and while youthful, this is lovely now.
