Situated mid-slope on the hill of Corton with a perfect south-easterly exposition, Les Grèves is one of Corton’s finest red terroirs. The soils are reddish clay peppered with a type of Jurassic limestone known here as Ladoix (after the nearby village), as well as some flint. Domaine des Croix purchased a 0.55-hectare parcel of 1960 vines in 2009, and have farmed them organically since then. This was vinified with 25% whole bunches and aged in 20% new oak. It’s an absolutely stunning, layered and mouth-coating Corton—at once muscular and lithe—powered by an underbelly of sweet red and dark cherry, ripe plum and bitter chocolate fruit, then finishing super-mineral. The notes below describe the wine well. Extremely smart buying for those who want Great Grand Cru for reasonable money. It knocks the socks off many a Grand Cru red from further north. 25% whole bunch. Solid deep red purple with a significant weight of fruit on the nose. Dark cherry to the fore with other red fruits competing for a place. There is a huge weight of absolutely gorgeous pure red fruit in the middle and then right at the end the typical mineral crunch comes through. Tannins are present but not dominating. Absolutely in balance, a lovely Corton for the long term.”

Here the beautifully fresh nose is deeply pitched with its array of plum, earth and violet aromas where a hint of game can be found. There is a lovely intensity to the sleek and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that display only a hint of backend rusticity on the muscular finish. This isn't quite as rich as the Vigne au Saint but it's more precise and I would note that while this should easily repay a decade of cellaring, it should be approachable after only 5ish years.”
