The Evangelist is a precious embodiment of the Barossa’s heart – a tiny blend of Old Vine Shiraz from three jewels of vineyards in celebrated sub-districts, Eden Valley (37%), Ebenezer (28%) and Stonewell (35%).

Open-fermenting is preferred for Shiraz as it allows more control, while encouraging flavour and structure development through additional oxygen. Maturation took place in 50% new French oak Hogsheads and Barriques for 18-20 months.
Made by winemaker Phil Lehmann, 2015 St .Johns Road The Evangelist Shiraz id medium-ruby with a purple rim.  Lifted and perfumed nose is busting with fresh dark cherries, coffee-oak, violets and a subtle lick of spice. The Evangelist is full-flavoured and elegant style of Barossa Shiraz showing delicate cool-climate elements of violet and spice. Mulberry, milk chocolate and a hint of licorice.' Drink it with slow roasted lamb shoulder with greens. It will cellar20+ years.
The St. John’s Road The Evangelist is not generally sold to retail. Due to unique set of circumstance, the airline for which the wine was destined has closed its Business Lounge and we have managed to secure a small parcel at heavily discounted price.
n.b. The three Vineyards provide fruit also for Peter Lehmann wines and its VSV series as well as and Stonewell

(Barossa Valley & Eden Valley) Deep red/purple hue and a spicy, fumy, violets and licorice aroma, the palate lively, intense, tight and finely focused - elegant rather than rich or expansive. I like the style. (From 3 prized old-vine vineyards, in Eden Valley, Stonewell and Ebenezer) 30 MAY 2017 Drink 20172035

Ripe fruit with remarkable density, though there is also a desirable coolness to the fruit. The palate has the type of plush concentration that you only get from very old vines. The oak is in check, and the balance is impeccable. It is completely delicious now though will age gracefully with time 26 JUN 2017 Drink 20172027

It saw 50% new (French) oak but highly scented fruit is the principal player. Indeed this wine proves that you can be rich and ripe and still maintain a fresh, vibrant disposition. Cranberry and plum, coffee-cream and port-wine jelly, all studded with clove and star anise. It feels confident from start to finish; it makes quality look easy.
