Marine breeze intimations of salt and alkali mingle with scents of fennel, lentil, lime and freshly milled grains. The polished but surprisingly firm midpalate adds piquantly nutty, mineral-rich undertones of spinach and artichoke along with a smoky, black-peppery bite. The long finish is brightly juicy and incisively peppery while conveying a palpable sense of chalk and alkali suffusion as well as mouthwatering salinity. (For details on this cuvée’s name and vineyard sources, consult my review of the 2015.)
