Grapes from a 10 hectare hillside vineyard with extremely rocky soil. Nebbiolo from this area expresses mineral characteristics from its varying and unique morainic soil, and offers concentrated red fruit aromas and flavours.
Restrained with subtle warmth of dark red fruit, smoky overtones and a line of metallic high tones from the mineral strength. Concentrated dark cherry, currant and cranberry fruit with layers of tar, smoke, Thai basil, rose petals and tobacco. Lengthy, tannic, austere and very powerful.
The 2007 Ghemme Collis Breclamae shows the deeper, slightly wilder side of Ghemme. Game, smoke, licorice, cedar and tobacco are expressed with elements of burliness and rusticity. There is more than enough depth to fill out the wine's broad shoulders. Still, what comes through most is the wine's virile, imposing personality.
