Lots of ripe blackcurrant and plum with black olive, clove and licorice. It’s full-bodied and intensely flavorful with firm but ripe tannins. Lightly bitter orange-peel and coffee-bean notes on the finish. Plenty of backbone. A baby Amarone. Drink or hold.
This wine is closely connected to the greatest wine of Valpolicella: Amarone. After pressing the dried grapes from which Amarone is made, the Valpolicella wine is passed over the still warm marc of Amarone. A second alcoholic fermentation begins which increases the alcoholic content and the wine becomes richer in colour, bouquet and body.
The 2016 Valpolicella Superiore Ripassa is simply beautiful. Freshly cut flowers, dark red berries and a gentle hint of spice caress the palate in a subtle, layered wine loaded with personality and class. On the palate, it delivers fruity notes and elegant tannin with hints of chocolate and spice. This is a great introduction to the wines of Zenato. Ripassa has played a highly important role in the Zenato winery’s evolution over the years. Best of all, this is a fabulous value wine.
