Sliced apples and honey with mangoes and papaya, yet it remains subtle and refined. It’s full-bodied, tight and refined on the palate. Serious all around.
A rich and layered white that sits at the level you would expect from a classified estate. Apricot and stone fruits abound, with creamy caramel edging and a welcome touch of bitter honeysuckle on the finish that is needed to balance what is a rich wine. Impressive, if weighty. 80% new oak. The 2019 Valandraud Blanc has a touch more intensity than the Virginie de Valandraud Blanc as you would expect. There is more fruit here, melon, dried pineapple and just a touch of white peach that emerges with time. The palate is fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity. This is where there is a major, tangible difference with the Virginie as there is more depth and complexity here, offering a lovely, caressing, creamy finish with a hint of ginger on the aftertaste. Excellent.
The 2019 Valandraud Blanc is a bright, crisp and finely cut wine of energy and tension. Time in the glass brings out the wine's textural depth and creaminess. Green apple, mint, white flowers and sage add freshness and brilliance.
