A good choice in the St Emilion grand cru range, confident tannins that are well balanced by equally confident blackberry and black cherry fruits, and a slate finish that keeps things tight and controlled. Lots of old vines in the vineyard here, some right back to early 20th century, make this well able to withstand the summer heat. Same owner as La Rousselle in Fronsac, Enzo Ide, with Stéphane Derenoncourt as consultant. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040

The 2019 Lucia is rich and expansive in the glass, with striking Cabernet Franc top notes that give real aromatic presence and breadth. Raspberry jam, mocha, dried rose petal, blood orange, cedar and mint all flesh out over time. The 2019 builds effortlessly through to the finish, as all the elements come together beautifully with a bit of aeration.
The 2019 Lucia has a very ripe, almost New World-like bouquet with "lashings" of red cherries, crushed strawberry and vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit mixed with brown spices and white pepper, though I would have liked more terroir expression and personality on the finish. Still, I appreciate its silky texture.
This shows really beautiful ripe plums, orange peel and even peaches. It’s full-bodied with chewy yet polished tannins and a flavorful finish.
