Domaine de l'Arlot also produces a tiny amount of Vosne and we were very pleased with our allocation this year. This wine, first made in 1998, is crafted from less than a hectare of vines, planted in 1949, 1970 and 2003. These are situated in the part of Les Suchots just below the northern slice of Richebourg and across from Romanée Saint-Vivant. It's a parcel heavily affected by millerandage, a condition that brings tiny bunches and berries--welcomed by quality-minded Burgundy producers for the intensity such fruit gifts.
This year, the new oak has been dialed down, and whereas the '16 was vinified with 100% whole bunches, Godot allowed just 15% in the '17 ferments--different year, different approach. Clearly this was a great call, and this is one of the finest l'Arlot Suchots we have shipped. Expect a relatively dense example of this wine with blackberry, fresh plum and tobacco notes, a pretty core of sweet fruit and a very fine structure. It's already very smart but if you can wait ten years, you'll be rewarded with something very special.
"Palish red purple colour, with an elegant bouquet of high class fresh red fruit, not many stems evident (15% were included). Perhaps just a few alpine strawberries. Gorgeous mid palate here with real intensity while retaining its cheerful fresh fruit character. Graceful, long and really very stylish. Very gracious and very persistent indeed."

"The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, matured in 45% new oak, has a pure bouquet of black cherries, raspberry and crushed strawberry, nicely focused and quite sensual in style. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannin, rather masculine in style for a Les Suchots but very tensile toward the mineral-driven, quite voluminous finish. There is just 17% whole bunches here."
