This wine is named in honour the founders of Castle Rock Estate, and is made to highlight the greatness of Riesling from the vineyard. Hand-harvested and whole bunch pressed, then fermented with some solids and left on lees for 2 months. The result is a wine with some savouriness which complements the pure Riesling characters.
Very pale straw coloured. A delicate yet fragrant nose, showing pink grape fruit characters, backed by some delicate passionfruit and floral notes. There is a slaty, minerality that adds complexity and interest.
The palate shows the wonderful delicacy of the variety, with low phenolics and a pure and long, focussed structure. The pink grapefruit characters flow through the length of the palate, while the natural acidity is powerful and feature of this wine. It is however, perfectly balanced by some creamy texture and silky characters and exhibits a finish that is fine and incredibly long.
A tight, restrained riesling with a flinty nature and a long, fine line of acid. It is an incredibly pure and linear style. Faint smoky notes. A glorious aperitif18 MAY 2019 Drink 2019–2026
