Lowburn Ferry Vineyard is planted 100% in pinot noir, an approximately equal mix of clones 115, 5, 667, 777, with a small area of the Abel clone. The vineyard is established on terraces that were in pasture for more than 100 years. The healthy soils have excellent biological activity which enhances the terroir of the site. Central Otago has a cool and dry continental climate and features large diurnal temperature differentials and a warm ripening period through autumn these climatic factors are ideal for ripening the fickle pinot noir grape, and our vineyard is dedicated solely to its production.
2017 Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir Judged #1 Pinot in NZ by Cuisine Magazine
Deep purple with purple hues. This wine has fragrant violet, spice, smoky oak char, red cherry and a hint of dried herb on the nose. The palate is sweet concentrated black cherry and plum. There is plenty of spice coming through the mid palate along with leather and a hint of tobacco. Complex with ample silky fine tannins. The finish is very long with a sweet red berry flourish.
Concentrated pinot noir with masses of dark berry, spice, anise, liquorice and nutty oak flavours. A richly-textured red with impressive depth and length. Powerful wine that is delicious now but shows obvious cellaring potential. Deserves aeration - my sample evolved considerably with a little air time

A captivating, youthful, fresh, fruity and gently savoury bouquet of Pinot Noir. Wild thyme, dark cherry, dried raspberry and black cherry aromas, dark spices of wood and wild forest flowers. Dry on the palate with chalky tannins, plenty of acidity and wood layers, tempered by a core of fruit and lengthy finish. Very youthful still needing cellar thyme. Best drinking from late 2021 through 2025+
