Tasted from magnum, the 2016 Santenay 1er Cru Gravières unwinds in the glass, with a light touch of reduction that dissipates rapidly to reveal aromas of dark berries, cassis, rich soil tones, grilled squab and baking chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with good concentration, tangy acids and a chassis of rich structuring tannin. Forget this beautifully balanced Santenay for five or six years.
