40yo vines, hand-picked, 20 days on skins, matured in French oak (20% new) for 12 months. The strength of the vines is immediately obvious, with hints of licorice, game and pepper on the bouquet and entry into the mouth. It is self-assuredly medium-bodied, not the skittish yearling when shiraz turned heads in the late '70s/early '80s. 'Shiraz from the Mornington Peninsula?' was the incredulous reaction.
