Cuilleron’s name was largely established on the reputation of his full-flavored, often extravagant Condrieus back in the mid-to-late 1990s, and while these wines are still among the most expressive examples of the appellation, they are decidedly more graceful than in the past. Oak is a factor for the top bottlings but my extensive experience with the wines suggests that the wood recedes rather quickly, so my advice is to leave your bottles alone for a bit before pulling corks.

Brilliant straw-yellow. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus, orchard fruits and violet are complicated by suggestions of quinine and dusty minerals. Juicy and deeply concentrated on the palate, offering intense white peach, pear nectar and orange zest flavors that show outstanding clarity and tension. The floral note repeats emphatically on the incisive finish, which lingers with superb focus and tenacity. Drink: 2021-2027

I loved the 2018 Condrieu Les Chaillets, which has an exotic yet clean, crisp style in its tart peach, honeyed lime, crushed rock, and floral aromas and flavors. With terrific concentration, medium body, and good acidity as well as balance, drink it any time over the coming 4-5 years.
