The inaugural release from a single, high density site planted to 7 clones in '10-'11 after clearing (hence La Clairiere in French) the land. Hand-picked, whole-berries with wild fermentation, aged in French oak barriques and hogsheads (40% new) for 15 months. The colour isn't great - pale is fine, but a brown tinge to the ruby inflections; subtle aromatics of spice, florals, raspberry and cherries with blood orange peel. It barely gets to medium-bodied and, like The Enclave, a touch hollow - put this down to young vines. It is sapid with a minerally sensation meeting ripe - if grippy - tannins, and bracingly fresh acidity.
