Scents of struck flint and crushed stone put the taster on notice of what is to come: namely, an instance of Riesling serving largely as a mineral delivery device. Firmness of feel combined with mineral emphasis makes for a certain austerity. But juicy suggestions of lemon and apple and saliva-inducing salinity satisfy, refresh, and call for the next sip. This wine – which was picked in late October and early November, foot-crushed and given extended pre-fermentative skin contact.
