Domaine du Pélican, based in Montigny-les-Arsures, near Arbois, Jura, was started in 2012 by Guillaume d’Angerville, of Domaine Marquis d’Angerville in Volnay, Burgundy, and François Duvivier, régisseur at Domaine Marquis d’Angerville. Domaine du Pélican farms high quality terroirs located in and around the city of Arbois, with the aim to create a new, high quality domaine based in this magnificent region, with strong winemaking traditions. The wines are vinified, barrelled and bottled locally, on the estate.
The new 2018 Arbois Pinot Noir marks the first time they bottled it separately, and it was aged 50/50 in foudre and barrel. They have different plots in Montigny on limestone and marl, and the grapes were all destemmed and fermented simply, pressed and put in barrel. It had finished fermenting and was young and tender; it felt like a fruit-driven Pinot, with juicy fruit and good ripeness. The palate was juicy and round.
