The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chalandins offers brambly red berry fruit mixed with rose petal and damp earthy notes on the slightly muted nose. The medium-bodied palate features red cherries mixed with orange peel and apricot. This is cohesive and poised, the 50% whole bunch nicely enmeshed on the finish. Excellent.

Glowing red purple. Three ages of fruit but the oldest is 35 years and a great pinot selection. Brilliant nose, perfumed cherries, just perfectly judged ripeness, a little touch of spice and clove from the barrel but the overall impression is of gloriously harmonious ripe and classy fruit. 45% whole bunch was used but does not show at all. Actually this cuvée has been a highlight of the Camille Giroud cellar for the past 15 years. 5 STAR WINE

There is plenty of classic Vosne spice nuances present on the aromas of red raspberry, sandalwood, Asian-style tea and a hint of hoisin. The finer if perhaps not quite as voluminous or precise displays a highly beguiling texture, all wrapped in a firmer and more complex finale. This is very good and worth checking out plus it could be enjoyed on the younger side if desired.
