The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is 100% whole cluster and matured in 25% new oak. It has a marvelous bouquet with blackberry, briar, crushed stone and wilted rose petals bursting from the glass. The very well-defined palate displays crisp acidity. A structured and correct Clos de la Roche with an endearingly spicy, black-pepper-tinged finish that lingers wonderfully. Excellent.

An ultra-floral nose reveals notes of violet, lilac and rose petal along with notes of dark currant, spice and soft earth wisps. The delicious and caressing medium-bodied flavors possess a powerful yet caressing mouthfeel while the abundant dry extract coats the palate on the mocha-inflected finish. Like several of the wines in the range, this markedly ripe effort must develop more depth, but the underlying material appears to be present for that to gradually occur over time.
