Brancaia’s SuperTuscan ‘Il Blu’ made its debut with the 1988 vintage and has since garnered 11 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri. Beginning with the 2013 vintage, the blend has changed a little to include more Merlot and is now 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is aged 20 months in barriques (2/3 new) and is dripping with dark plum and cherry fruit with chocolate and spice, the palate full bodied with velvety tannins. Its a style of wine that drinks well right out of the gate but cellars for 10-15 years. Sensational wine - sensational package.
Beautiful aromas of currants and mushrooms with bark and flowers. Violets and chocolate, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, creamy tannins that are long and poised. It has such attractive tension and focus. Lovely sweet currants and berries at the finish. So succulent and intense. 80% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon and 10% sangiovese. The merlot is from the area of Radda and the cabernet and sangiovese from Castelina in Chianti. Drink or hold.
