The fruit for this ripe pear, ginger and peach laden Viognier came from the Yalumba vineyards in Eden Valley in South Australia. Thanks to Louisa Rose and the Hill-Smith family for making the grapes available for us.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing what wines would emerge from Clonakilla from these other resources. Very exciting. Wonderful to see such high pedigree collaboration too.
Textural white of grip and high refreshment factor. A serious, complex and layered and intense white wine. Lots of chew and powdery-talc-like qualities to texture, dried pear, ginger, preserved lemon and the faintest wild honey character concluding with really pleasing, spicy-bitter notes.
Great energy and drive, refreshment factor and yet plenty of structure, a wine to let come up to room temperature and check out the finer detail in. Feels like it’s in a good place.

Light, bright yellow colour. Fresh and spicy aromas, in the ripe gris, gewürz or viognier spectrum; creamy lees too.
The wine is full in the mouth, rich and broad, with abundant flavour and weight, the finish dry and clean with a slight tannin kick but not overly grippy or coarse. The finish is dry and firm, with a smidgin of tannin bitterness to conclude.
