Established in 2000, Bricco Giubellini is the highest vineyard in Monforte d’Alba at 530 metres and the smallest single vineyard at just 0.33 hectares. The wine, made by Fabio Fantino, has until recently only been available locally – locally, as in the village of Monforte!
The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba from Bricco Giubellini is gorgeous. Sweet, perfumed and beautifully lifted, the 2017 shows off all of the allure this high-altitude site is capable of. Sweet macerated cherry, mint, spice, orange peel and raspberry linger on the persistent, slightly nervous finish. Bricco Giubellini remains one of Piedmont's undiscovered gems. The 2017 will appeal most to readers who enjoy fragrant, mid-weight Barolos.
