Chambolle-Musigny at the heart of Côte de Nuits, between Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeot.

History & tradition: the name of the village Chambolle is probably derived from the Celtic "cambola", already reputed for its vineyards in Gallo-Roman times and cultivated by the monks in the Middle Ages. Joseph Drouhin owns several parcels in this appellation.  The subsoils are limestone of the Jurassic age origin, ideally suited for Pinot Noir.
The fruit is handpicked and sorted before fermentation in French oak barrels (20% in new oak).for 14 to 18 months.

Tasting note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin
"Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. Long aftertaste, with notes of cherry and candied fruit"
Once again there is a liqueur-like aspect to the pretty and fresh aromas of plum, black raspberry and an abundance of spice elements and especially anise. The precise, refined and energetic flavors brim with minerality that adds a sense of lift to the beautifully complex, persistent and balanced finale. This is a terrific villages and very much worth your interest.

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has a delineated bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and light iris flower aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine precision, quite minerally and showing much more precision than the Village (as you would expect) and just the right amount of salinity on the finish. This is one of Véronique Drouhin’s pet favorites, and I can understand why.
