From a single vineyard in Hutton Vale. Matured 2 years in 50% new oak hogsheads. Dense black/blueberry fruit is met evenly by generous high-cocoa dark chocolate and coffee-bean oak. The developing style of this cool vintage lends layers of sweet leather to a long finish. Firm, fine tannins will hold it for the medium-term.

John Howard Angas arrived in SA in 1843, and inter alia gave his name to Angaston, purchasing and developing significant farming property close to the still embryonic town. He named part of this Hutton Vale, and it is this property that is now owned and occupied by his great-great-grandson John and wife Jan Angas. In 2012, the Angas family and Teusner Wines shook hands on a new partnership arrangement, under which the Angases grow the grapes, and Kym Teusner is responsible for the winemaking, sales and marketing of Hutton Vale wines. The vineyards in question first caught Kym’s attention when he was at Torbreck, and he fulfilled a long-term ambition with the new agreement. Just when the future seemed assured, the vineyards were badly affected by a grass fire in August ’14. While much of the vineyard will ultimately be regenerated, some of the oldest grenache vines were completely destroyed, as were 55 of the magnificent 500yo gum trees that are part of the striking landscape of Hutton Vale.
