Clones I10V1 and I10V5 from the Meadowbank vineyard in the Derwent Valley. Whole-bunch pressed. Fermented and matured with monthly stirring for 9 months in 228L French oak barriques (40% new); 50% mlf. Epitomising the ideal that every element in larger-than-life amplitude can constitute exacting balance. This is a vintage of heightened stone fruit and fig met confidently by cashew-nut notes of French oak and the cut and tension of Tasmanian malic acidity. It's at once fleshy and taut, rich and lively, holding every detail of this grand parade long on the finish. Ready for main course fare from the outset, this is a full-bodied chardonnay by every definition, and it's a good one.
