2018 Casa Freschi Malbec, Langhorne Creek

Vineyard character begins to show itself in this wine. There's a ripeness and richness, a headiness in the aromatics here, with a sense of cooked rhubarb and blueberries rather than red and black fruits.

The 2018 season produced lower than average yields of exceptional quality fruit. The abundant and late 2017 season resulted in low vine reserves for 2018 from the outset, but good winter rains, favourable flowering conditions and a warm, dry ripening period resulted in healthy, beautifully ripe fruit at harvest.

The result is an exuberantly scented wine with blueberry, rhubarb, violet and spice, deeply intense flavour and a lovely backbone of full, fine tannins enhanced by saline minerality.
