Ripe and generous with lovely freshness. This is a very elegant Haut-Médoc that has excellent balance and a long, almost silky finish that makes it easy to enjoy right now. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Lamarque has a very refined bouquet with gorgeous aromas of blackberry, cedar and pressed flowers that unfurls beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite robust and firm tannin, but the fruit is so pure that you barely notice its arching structure. It delivers a wonderful, persistent pencil box tinged finish and a long, graphite aftertaste. This is a superb contribution to the vintage, just classic, damn delicious Left Bank Bordeaux.

Château de Lamarque is an historic estate in the Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux with 35 hectares (86 acres) of vineyards planted to 45 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 percent Merlot, 10 percent Cabernet Franc and a small parcel of Petit Verdot. These vines are situated on the left bank of the Gironde river and planted over three parcels of soils rich in gravel, clay and sandstone. The estate has moved progressively towards organic viticulture and uses minimal chemicals.
