Strongly smoky, oaky, charred-wood aromas at first, shot through with black pepper and assorted spices, the oak very complementary. Graphite and coal-dust notes. The smokiness is strong and may come in part from stalks in the ferment. The wine is full-bodied and nicely balanced, not overdone but retains a touch of elegance. The centre is rich in sweet, very ripe berry fruit flavours. An impressive shiraz.23 MAY 2019 Drink 2019–2032

Exceptionally complex, dark and brooding. Black plum and wild berry fruits are complimented by graphite, undergrowth, smoked meats and elegant floral notes. The palate is plush followed with a crescendo of tannins that whisk the wine on a long journey over the palate. Here stands the iron fist in a velvet glove. Savoury tannins build on a long, spicy and complete mouthful of flavours. Despite the power and full throttle fruit, this wine retains an elegance and nobility often talked about though rarely seen. One of the most complete and satisfying Estate Vineyard wines released to date. Cellar 7-20 years.
