A beautiful, rich burgundy to look at, and every bit as elegant on the palate. A cooler vintage gives plenty of the dark fruit (blackcurrant, plums) you’d expect from a cabernet, layered sublimely with black tea, tobacco, cranberry and suggestions of dried herbs and bramble. Solid tannin structure and a long, chocolatey finish round out an exceptional cool-climate stunner.
A big wine, perfect for pairing with cold weather and a hearty meal—the savoury, almost-smoky nose presents bresaola and leather, as well as more typical bramble and blackcurrant, as well as a delicate, cassis-y sweetness. Palate-acid is high, and flavour continues to develop (particularly given time in the glass): black cherry, cocoa and coconut. The structure bodes well for further cellaring (if you can resist popping it now).”
