Gold Medal 2020 Langtons Yarra Valley Wine Show
Well, syrah has certainly earned its place at the top tier this vintage. Fruit off the close-planted site (5200 vines/ha) at Oakridge, mostly destemmed, with 20% whole bunches in the ferment. Matured 10 months in 10% new French puncheons, harnessing the elements into a complete wine. It's wonderfully savoury, spicy and smoky, with plentiful grainy, textural tannins. It's full bodied, but there's no excess here.

Vibrant purple with a purple hue. Aromas are concentrated, bright and fresh with red currants, black cherry and cassis aromas with elements of bunch and a hint of cool climate spice and floral. The palate is purely fruited, rich, textured and concentrated with long chains of plush velvety tannins. The fruit just flows through the wine, seamless and continuous. Generous and soft, the acidity works in harmony with the fruit. Syrah in its most purist form, all that is great about Yarra Valley and the variety.
