Champagne Henriot was founded in 1808 by Madame Apolline Henriot. More than 210 years later, the house remains fully owned by the Henriot family, currently run by the 10th generation. In one of the most commercially competitive wine regions in the world, the family remain fiercely independent and proud of their position among the top houses of Champagne. With no outside influence, the family are uninhibited in their pursuit of quality first and foremost in every one of their wines. Exceptional Premier and Grand Cru vineyard parcels, extended ageing far beyond regional standards, a high percentage of reserve wines, and winemaking focused on purity, elegance and intensity are the hallmarks of the house.
Very pale. Fragrant, smoky nose with lots of depth and a certain refreshing green fruit quality (as opposed to green, underripe quality). Very pale. Fresh, Chardonnay attack. Good, firm, savoury wine. Very deep and toasty and real evolution. Fine mousse. Sophisticated champagne. Really very fine and sophisticated – could withstand comparison with some much more expensive champagnes.
18/20 Jancis Robinson MW
2013 Base Vintage; 50% chardonnay, largely from the Côte des Blancs, particularly Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, Cramant and Chouilly; 50% pinot, mostly from the Montagne de Reims, particularly Aÿ, Verzy, Verzenay, Beaumont, Sillery and Mailly-Champagne; 65% premier and grand crus; 30% reserves, including Cuve 38 aged 3.5 years on lees; 7–8g/L dosage; cork; 70% of production, hence around 1 million bottles
It bears the expression of the great Champagne terroirs through its balance of pinot noir and chardonnay. Its highly distinctive aromatic expression and length on the palate make it a superb aperitif champagne.
The exceptionally high proportion of chardonnay (50%), balanced to perfection with pinot (45% pinot noir and 5% pinot meunier) can be thanked for the unique character of this Champagne. More than 25 cru wines from the finest Champagne terroirs in Cotes des Blancs and Montagne de Reims make up the blend, together with 30% of precious reserve wines.
Well balanced and harmonious on the palate, summoning flavours of brioche, together with crunchy cherries and the sun-kissed blush of white peach. Clean on the finish, with all the freshness of just-picked walnuts.
