2019 Coriole Willunga 1920 Shiraz, McLaren Vale

A centurion vineyard. Hand picked, open-top fermented and raised in French oak (15% new) for 18 months. From the warmer coastal flats, this is a corpulent wine of power and palate-staining levels of extract. Yet it is neither jammy, nor heavy nor overwrought. Mocha, cedar and coffee-bean oak. Damson plum, Asian medicine, tea leaf, clove and star anise. Dusty, rich and nicely pliant, with the oaky bow well nestled amidst the morass of fruit, spice and herb.
