Exceptional depth of colour and concentrated flavour. Deep and powerful, ripe - no sign of greenness, a big and slightly callow wine but the tannins are very supple so it drinks well already. Quite a different impression than the first time I tasted this. 26 DEC 2022 Drink 2021–2036

With 11% shiraz for good measure, matured in a mix of old and new oak for 2 months. I like the approach the Sons take to oak in their wines, it never intrudes. Here, wonderfully varietal and regional flavours of ripe blackberry and black cherry mesh with brown spices, licorice, briar, bay leaf, earth and softly spoken cedary notes. It's a lovely pure wine, making finely honed, elegant drinking.

Sons of Eden has a simple philosophy to produce wines with flavour and personality from vineyards of unique character within the world class Barossa region in South Australia.Sons of Eden takes its name from the two partners, Winemaker Corey Ryan and Viticulturist Simon Cowham, who both learned and refined their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley.Specialing in varieties that the Barossa produces to the highest standard. Varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre from the Barossa Valley and Riesling from the Eden Valley.
This Pumpa is a blend of Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a small portion of Shiraz. The Cabernet is from 20 year-old vines and the Shiraz from 50+ year-old vines, both in the Central sub-region of the Eden Valley.
Perfumed red-currant, dried herbs and roasted chestnut aromas. A rich and juicy palate coated with chewy, rounded tannins and finishing with a lovely freshness. A wine that is approachable now, which will continue to gain complexity as it matures over the medium term.
