There are plenty of ripe black plum and fig aromas, with strong components of earth and leather. Despite all the ripeness here, the wine is still balanced. Winemaker Jérôme Flous says: 'It is not far from 2018, but the acidity is much more interesting'. This 2.6ha vineyard is a monopole of the domaine. Flous remarked that it is 'a dry terroir in a dry vintage; south-facing, and very hot.'

Aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, raw cocoa and peonies preface the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant wine with tangy acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This is very promising.

This terroir offers a fruity and very elegant of the Pinot Noir varietal. It displays a deep ruby colour and remarkably pure notes of red and black fruits. The palate is lively and spicy with a refreshing touch of menthol. This wine evolves beautifully in the bottle although its generous character makes it a pleasure to drink in its youth. Serve with duck breast, fillet of beef, slow roast lamb, veal shank with caramelised carrots.
