The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba from Bricco Giubellini is bright, floral and effusive, with terrific energy and tons of character. Think of it as ethereal, vibrant expressionn of Ginestra. Light sandy soils and the location of this site at the upper limit of the appellation yield a Barolo with striking aromatics and beautifully layered dark blue/purplish fruit. The 2018 is classy, elegant and polished to the core, Conterno-Fantino farms Bricco Giubellini and makes the wines for Gigi and Maria Garanzini, whose property is next door.

Bricco Giubellini is easily the most exciting young Barolo producer I have tasted for some time.

Established in 2000, Bricco Giubellini is the highest vineyard in Monforte d’Alba at 530 metres and the smallest single vineyard at just 0.33 hectares. The wine, made by Fabio Fantino, has until recently only been available locally – locally, as in the village of Monforte!
