45/45/8/1/1% cabernet franc/merlot/malbec/cabernet sauvingon/petit verdot. Matured in French oak for 14 months. This is kaleidoscopic. Where last year was restrained, supple, and red fruited, this is dark, brooding, concentrated, spicy and exotic. The fruit maintains a pure core, but it is buried deep beneath layers of savoury tannin (normal and expected from 2020), resinous oak, and an array of tobacco leaf, star anise, fennel seed, black peppercorn, salted licorice and hung deli meat in the background. It has tremendous staying power; the longer it is open, the more it opens up (no surprise there), but it does indicate that time in the cellar will be its friend. A superb wine.
