This is the entry point to 'serious California' without the serious price point that is often involved. Half of the production of Bedrock, with vine age starting around 90 years, consisting of declassified barrels from vineyard-designated wines. The largest single component comes from the old vines at Bedrock, followed by the perfumed goodness of Esola, the softer but fresh Schmiedt, and the peppery, dark-fruited Nervo Ranch.
85% Zinfandel with the balance a blend of Carignan, Mataro, Grenache, and Alicante Bouschet, along with esoteric creatures like Aubun, Abouriou, and many more. Textured and broad with sweet berry fruits. Ripe but with definition. Has a lovely seductive, lush quality, but there are also layers here, and it finishes fresh. The magic happens when paired with something special from the bbq.
