Moving to the two 2020s, the 2020 Saint Joseph is a beauty. Deep purple-hued, with a great nose of framboise, darker cherries, spice, woodsmoke, and lite gunpowder, it's medium-bodied, ripe, and textured, with some classic Northern Rhône game and bacon fat notes emerging with time in the glass. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

The extravagant nose of floral honey and ripe pineapple leads you into a richly textured but lively palate, where you don’t feel the 14.5% alcohol until you get to the finish. But even then it remains fresh and clean. No distracting bitterness. Drink or hold.

Inky blackberries on the nose. Very smooth, with cooling fruit, and just a nip of soft tannin. Good sense of purity, very neat, with a fresh finish. From the far north of the St-Joseph appellation, the vines are 25 years old on average and grown on sandy granitic soils. Grapes are destemmed, fermented in stainless steel, then aged for 12 months in barrel.

Tasted from three separate barrels, the 2020 Saint Joseph looks extremely promising, with seductive notes of violets, blackberries and mocha. Boasting great intensity and color, ample weight and concentration, ripe, supple tannins and a lingering finish, this should be stunning and a decent value.

Saturated magenta. Displays vibrant, mineral-accented black raspberry, cherry and floral scents that are complemented by suggestions of candied flowers and spicecake. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering appealingly sweet red and blue fruit flavors that deepen and turn spicier as the wine opens up. Shows fine clarity and spicy cut on the persistent finish, which features subtle tannins a touch of smokiness
