Sturdy and dark fruited as is Kooyong's stamp, Haven is a plume of bing cherry, blueberry, black plum and cinnamon flavours, given energy by bright acidity and silken tannins following. This is pinot's domain, in a riper sense. Vanillin, cedar oak frames and creams the wine's edges, nestling in nicely to be absorbed, surely, into the generous melee in time.

Deep red/purple colour; impressive and youthful, as is the nose. Intense dark fruit aromas, dark cherry and dark plum, with subtle foresty overtones, and an obvious lacing of toasty oak. The wine is at the full-bodied end of the pinot spectrum, with intensity, richness, fleshy extract and ample but balanced tannins. Superb wine: lovely now and has a big future. 29 JUL 2017 Drink 2017–2030
