100% semillon, hand picked, whole-bunch pressed, only made in some years. Matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak. The fruit has piercing intensity of flavour on the tongue; ginger spice, Italian mountain herbs, white pepper, stone fruit, apple and pear blossom, crunchy sea salt flakes and something else dry and salty in there ... dried kelp perhaps. This is an ever-moving, complex, layered and diaphanous wine of great length. Highly recommended. 375ml bottle.

Planted in 1969 Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region, located in the northern sub–region of Wilyabrup, Western Australia. Clare & Keith Mugford, as winemakers, viticulturalists & proprietors, have been making wine & tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1984 & 1979, respectively.
This wine combines all that is interesting about Chardonnay – generous stone fruits of apricot and peach and blossom and frangipani-like notes. The background array includes marmalade, citrus rind and roast cashew. There is also great complexity derived from the caramel and butter notes of malolactic fermentation and the subtle, spicy, charry oak.
The palate is in line with the aromas, the palate delivers all that is exciting about the variety. Generous, full bodied and creamy mouth-feel; bright acidity and round, soft tannin; all finished off by subtle, toasty oak notes.
