Pascal Agrapart embodies the best of the artisan tradition in Champagne, and his wines show it.”
I think I can say with confidence these are the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Pascal Agrapart. The flagship cuvées in the range are fabulous, but what really impressed me this year was how gorgeous the more 'modest' wines in the range are. Specifically, the 7 Crus and Terroirs this year are outrageously beautiful. As always, Agrapart's Champagnes are taut and intensely mineral in feel.

Agrapart’s wines are of uniformly excellent quality, with a naturally vibrant and vinous character that makes them feel grown rather than made.

…this is a model source of fine-drawn Champagnes … Because there are no large marketing budgets to factor in, these are also some of the best value wines in Champagne.

Agrapart holds back a tiny parcel of his Minéral cuvée to release with age. The aging is on cork rather than on lees, quite a point of difference that results in a very different type of bottle age complexity. Agrapart made amazing ‘09s that show more texture, and more earthy detail compared with the crystalline minerality of the ‘08’s, but they are every bit as profound and certainly more complex and seductive. So the quality on offer here is magnificent. This was bottled unfiltered in May 2010 and disgorged in September 2015, therefore spending over five years on lees. The dosage was just 3 g/L.
True to its vintage, this is forward and fruity, showing an ample ripeness. At the same time, it’s underlined by a piercing core of chalky minerality, turning more tense and pointed on the long, fragrant finish. It’s an excellent version of this cuvée, and a fine successor to the brilliant 2008.

A big, rich wine, the 2009 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Minéral brings together the radiance and intensity of the vintage, with the freshness that is so typical of the Agrapart Champagnes. Today, the 2009 looks like it will also offer readers quite a bit more early gratification than is often the case. Almonds, pears, spices, mint and dried flowers are some of the notes that are laced into the finish. The Minéral emerges from old-vine parcels in the
Champboutons and Les Bionnes lieux-dits. Dosage is 5 grams/liter. Disgorged: June 2015.
