Coriole Estate Shiraz delivers blackberry, plum and spice with classic McLaren Vale richness, depth, balance and finesse.
Mainly from vines around 50 years old, and all estate fruit on terra rossa soils. A little less new oak this year (20%) but same élevage at 18 months. The cooler year has presented a finer, more fragrant offering, with wild red berries and cherries, dried herbs and subtle earthy complexity. It’s a very charming wine, more to medium weight, that bears the current-day Coriole stamp of light-handed making, framing fruit and vintage.

Coriole is one of McLaren Vale's great family estates, founded in 1967 by Hugh and Molly Lloyd and still proudly family owned today. Perched on the hills overlooking the Vale, the winery has built a reputation for producing wines that combine regional generosity with balance, freshness and a strong sense of place. Under the guidance of Mark Lloyd and winemaker Duncan Lloyd, Coriole continues to craft some of the region's most consistent and food friendly wines, with Shiraz remaining a cornerstone of the portfolio.
The 2023 vintage delivered excellent growing conditions, allowing Shiraz to develop impressive flavour intensity while retaining vibrant natural acidity. Fruit is sourced from estate vineyards and selected sites across McLaren Vale, where warm days, cooling maritime influences and diverse soils contribute depth, spice and complexity. Careful maturation in oak enhances texture and structure while allowing the fruit to remain the star.
Deep crimson purple in colour, the nose bursts with aromas of blackberry, plum and dark cherry layered with notes of violet, black pepper and licorice. As the wine opens, hints of dark chocolate, olive tapenade and warm spice emerge, adding extra dimension. The palate is generous yet beautifully composed, delivering ripe dark fruits, savoury nuances and fine grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps the wine energetic and balanced, while the finish lingers with spice, black fruit and a touch of earthy complexity.A perfect match for slow roasted lamb shoulder, chargrilled beef, smoky barbecue dishes, mushroom ragù or roasted eggplant with herbs. Equally enjoyable at a casual family gathering or a long lunch with friends, it captures the warmth and character that have made McLaren Vale Shiraz famous worldwide.
