The 2024 Clarry's GSM sees a blend of 43/42/15% grenache/shiraz/mataro. Shows vibrant fruit characters of red and dark plum, cranberry and raspberry fruit, all layered with spice and hints of dried citrus rind, ginger cake, cola, orange blossom and earth. Energetic, fruit pure and spicy; it makes for great-value drinking. Drink 2025-2035.

Clarry's honours Clarence 'Clarry' Kalleske, a former family member whose name the wine has carried since the label's early days. All grapes are grown on the certified organic and biodynamic Kalleske family estate at Greenock. Their old vine Grenache planted in the 1940s and 1960s produces fruit of natural concentration and genuine character, with support for this wine coming from younger Shiraz and Mataro vines within the same vineyard.
Open top fermented and basket pressed in the traditional manner, then matured briefly in very old oak hogsheads for three to four months. The short time in oak is deliberate, and aims to just give the components just enough time to integrate the without masking the fruit. Troy Kalleske has been making this style since the winery's first vintage in 2002, and the approach has never needed to change.
Bright purple-red, the nose is lifted and expressive with raspberry, cranberry, rose petal and clove like notes and a savoury herb and earth undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy with fine slatey tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, fruit-driven finish. A reliable organic Barossa GSM at a sensible price.
Think of dishes like Korean bulgogi, grilled pork ribs, a simple pasta or a charcuterie board for this wine.
