Very finely textured with pure blue fruit and lavender and violet undertones. It’s full-bodied with pure, focused fruit. Extremely long and refined. Clearly better than the 2018.

The 2019 Langoa Barton has a very typical Langoa nose, which is a good thing, sporting vivacious black cherries, blackberry, crushed iris, cedar and light blood orange scents lurking offstage. Lovely oak integration here. The palate is beautifully defined on the entry, a structured almost big-boned Langoa with enormous grip on the spicy finish. I love the generosity of this Saint-Julien, one that I suspect will be seductive on release but don't be deceived - it deserves cellaring lest you get a smacked wrist for being impatient.

Silky blackberry and bilberry fruits, this is a brilliant Langoa, with concentration and lift that pull you both forwards and upwards through the palate. For me this is more successful than the 2018 because it delivers an absolute punch of fruits but gently so, with elegance and control that is very St Julien. Grilled cedar finish, great stuff. Drinking Window 2027 - 2042

The Barton family's name has been woven into the fabric of Saint Julien for more than two centuries, and Château Langoa Barton remains one of Bordeaux's great traditional estates. A Third Growth in the 1855 Classification, it is celebrated for producing wines of restraint, refinement and longevity, consistently rewarding those who appreciate classical claret over fleeting fashion.

The estate's gravelly vineyards provide the perfect home for Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The superb 2019 vintage combined generous ripeness with remarkable freshness, creating a Saint Julien of depth, harmony and precision that promises decades of graceful evolution.

The colour is a deep garnet with youthful ruby highlights. Aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and cedar are complemented by graphite, violets, cigar box and subtle spice. The palate is beautifully proportioned, carrying concentrated black fruits across polished tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of tobacco leaf, crushed stone and fine cocoa emerge through a long, poised finish that reflects the estate's unmistakable style.

A magnificent partner for roast rib of beef, herb crusted lamb, duck with wild mushrooms or beef Wellington with truffle. Enjoy with a generous decant today or cellar confidently into the 2040s as further complexity unfolds.
